Olympia by Tacoma OP-2
3/4 size Parlor Acoustic Guitar
This early 2000’s Olympia by Tacoma has great playability and that sweet parlor tone. Although it is a 3/4 size guitar, it is extremely comfortable to play and has good volume and projection, in spite of its’ smaller size. You can feel the vibrations from this baby as soon as you strum that first note or chord. This Olympia is built very well and the brand is known for high quality instruments at an outstanding value. These guitars are somewhat of a rarity since Fender purchased the brand in 2007 and discontinued production shortly thereafter.
It has a cool select Spruce Top with Catalpa Back and Sides (some sources say Mahogany), and a Mahogany neck that meets the body at the 12th fret. It has a natural satin finish, a stunning and uniquely shaped Rosewood bridge with string ramps for a good string break angle and a Rosewood fingerboard (12 in. radius) that goes up to the 18th fret with nice dot inlays.
I upgraded this guitar with a handmade compensated Bone Saddle which I carved and polished myself. Bone saddles improve the sustain, tone and volume substantially over any plastic one because the material is much denser and transfers the strings vibration better to the top of the guitar. I also installed a chrome strap button so you have the option of standing up to play.
The frets are in good shape and have been cleaned and polished to a mirror like appearance. The fingerboard has also been cleaned and oiled. The strings (Ernie Ball Light 11-52 phosphor bronze) are over a year old but still sound nice and warm. The action is comfortable and the intonation is pretty good. Truss Rod works too.
NO cracks or loose braces. The bridge is not pulling up from the soundboard and the neck joint is solid to the body. It doesn’t have any weird buzzes or dead notes. The neck is straight and there are no structural issues to note. The nut is in good shape, It has all of its’ original bridge pins and the enclosed die-cast Chrome tuners turn freely and work smoothly. There are a few small dings and scratches in the finish but nothing major. All and all it is a fantastic guitar that is fun to play and also sounds awesome.
Excellent guitar for travel, sitting at home on the couch or as a first guitar for someone looking to learn.
