c. 1900s/1910s; could have been from the Skandia Furniture Company - Rockford, IL as it looks so similar
Carved solid golden oak secretary desk with a cylinder roll top is from a New York farm that my grandfather once owned. This desk has been in my home (non-smoking) for the past 50 years.
This piece features a cylinder-top that opens to reveal a multitude of storage cubbies and drawers and a pull-out writing surface. Below this is a large, central drawer that spans the width of the desk. Below this there are two deep drawers of uniform size with matching hardware and locking mechanisms. Next to these is a small cabinet that appears to have had similar hardware that has unfortunately been lost to time. We do have keys but they don't function.
The desk was possibly manufactured by Skandia, a furniture manufacturer that once occupied a two-block brick complex along what is now 23rd Ave in Rockford.
Exhibits minor signs of wear including scuffs and scratches throughout, in addition to the aforementioned missing hardware. Pictures can be sent for the scuffs and scratches.
